A Yellow Purple Coneflowerąthus the paradox. Relatively rare both in the wild and as a cultivated plant, this species is nonetheless stunning and worthy of wider use. Its pure bright yellow petals fall elegantly around a prominent brown cone (on which our garden's Goldfinches have deemed the perfect perching spot).
The result of over ten years of breeding Echinacea purpura and Echinacea paradoxa, this beauty shows the best traits of both. The large flowers with reflexed petals, a luscious shade of mango, surround a prominent golden cone. A beguiling perfume and strong, stiff stems make blooms choice cut flowers as well as creating a stunning specimen by the front entrance.
If you want a more flamboyant coneflower, this one is for you. The solid, deep orange flowers up to 4 1/2" across retain their intense color for weeks, with the added bonus of a spicy scent. Contrasts well with spiky blue or purple salvias, bluish-purple geraniums, Oxalis triangularis or Verbena ęTouch of StyleĘ . Easy and as drought-tolerant as any coneflower. For full sun and well-drained, average soils.
The latest breeding in intensely-colored orange echinacea from our friends in Georgia, the Saul brothers. A more floriferous bloomer than its predecessor, ęSundownĘ emits a potent fragrance. The 3-foot tall plants will instantly become a new favorite for our perennial garden. Super hardy, too.
A remarkable cone-fection developed in Holland by Ari Blom. MeringueĘs flowers begin as flat daisies with greenish-white petals in a wide ray. Then, as each flower matures, from the central cone emerges short, fluffy petals, forming a pompon. More compact and floriferous than the species, its sturdy stems provide excellent, long-lasting cut flowers.
A soft pink coneflower that adds beauty to the garden, and hope for a good cause. Large, broad blooms, full of substance and delicately scented, are held on strong, sturdy stems from summer into fall. As a Plant for the Cure, a portion of proceeds from the sale of each plant is sent by our supplier to the Susan G. Komen Foundation to benefit breast cancer research.
