This hybrid occurred at Washfield Nursery in England, with its suspected parents being E. davidii and E. acuminatum. It is truly a beautiful sight when in full blossom, with upright and dense sprays to 10ö of large lavender-pink blossoms and handsome, somewhat mottled foliage. Partial to full shade, well-drained soil.
This rare and exceptional cultivar emerged from our wild seed collections in China. It exhibits lustrous deep red-burgundy foliage in spring before fading to greenish-purple in summer. Terminal clusters of creamy bell-shaped flowers appear atop stunning 6-foot stems in early summer, resulting in crops of glistening black-purple fruit. The overall appearance is of a handsomely striking, well-mannered bamboo. Shade to part shade in evenly moist soil.
