Iris ensata Kiyozuru New for 2009 $12.95
Japanese Water Iris
Japanese irises are among the most beautifully detailed and structurally versatile of hardy midsummer blooming perennials, and this one proves it. Each large flower is a work of art, with wide purple-lavender falls flecked and veined in white and pink and striped with a bright yellow signal toward their base. Long, sword-like foliage has prominent midribs, providing a tall and stately vertical form through the season.
Iris ensata 'Stippled Ripples' $8.95
Japanese Water Iris
Lovely white falls stippled and edged in lavender with a watercoloristÆs touch, and each lightly ruffled (hence, "rippled"). Pure white petaloids and yellow signals mark the center of the 5-inch-wide flowers, which open on sturdy stems in midsummer. Upright clumps of narrow foliage. Prefers full sun in moist, organically-enriched acidic soils, even waterlogged boggy sites at the edge of a pond during the growing season, but does tolerate less moist, average soil conditions.
Iris ensata 'Kogesha' $14.95
Japanese Water Iris
A variable form of this Eastern species, forming low mats of narrow, linear foliage and charming purple flowers held above on stems to 4", in early summer. Drought and shade tolerant, the numerous forms of this species are not put to use to the extent they should be in woodland gardens across N. America *We ship one-year old, bare root plants.
Large pale lavender falls with contrasting dark violet veining throughout surround intense solid-purple center ôpetaloidsö. Another dramatic summer-bloomer with long, narrow leaves typical of the species. Adds summer color and a vertical accent to water gardens when grown in partially submerged containers.
Iris ensata 'Lady in Waiting' $8.95
Japanese Water Iris
SheÆs quite the lady! Pure white falls are gently edged in pink and form broad, nearly 7-inch wide flowers that should attract the attention of any passing suitor. Perfect paired with darker-colored members of the same species or other irises. Stately, upright, narrow foliage maintains a textural contrast spring into fall. Loves acidic, organically rich, moist soils, tolerating even standing water during the growing season, but will also consider settling down in somewhat drier, more typical garden conditions.
