Primula vialii $12.95
Primrose
Very nearly an endangered species, this rarity is a primrose apart. In June and July, its stout stalk crowds with hundreds of tiny flowers of red calyces and blue-violet corollas. The petite blossoms have a bottle brush appearance, similar to Kniphofia, though smaller. With its distinctive flowers, ĉPrimula vialiiĈ is unlike any other in the genus, and seldom encountered in its native haunts.
ĉFrancescaĈ is a Primrose that promises to win the heart of many a primrose skeptic. Exotic lime green and yellow flowers feature crinkly petals that are packed in a broad dome, and held prominently above the large, textured foliage. The display lasts up to two months or more and the substantial stem length makes it ideal for cutting. Provide mulch to keep roots cool.
The glowy impressionistic candelabra spikes put on a lasting show of sensationally colored flowers. Their rich tones of bright orange, yellow and mauve glow atop the serene blue-green savoyed foliage. An excellent seed strain introduced to us by breeders Joe Eck and Wayne Winterrowd. For full sun or very light shade in moist, humus-rich and cool soil.
A seedling strain of the fabulous and reliable Japanese candelabra primula, producing vigorous clumps of spoon-shaped foliage and tall spires of whorled flowers in intense crimson red. Tolerant of extremely wet soil, in sun or partial shade.
The fragrant, fully doubled deep rose flowers, looking like miniature carnations, open in May. Named for the third-generation horticulturist from a fabled nursery family known for its perennial savvy. Thrives in damp, poorly drained soils.
The round, scalloped leaves with their felt-like texture lay out an inviting carpet of funnel-shaped deep rose flowers and cool green scalloped leaves. This early spring arrival spreads stoloniferously, and makes for an easy-growing, pretty presence in our dry woodland.
