This blossoms adjacent to to the brilliant red autumn color of Viburnum opulus æNanumÆ in the mixed border adjacent to our nursery. A smashing combination
A carpet of darkness seldom observed in the plant kingdom. The thick, glossy black tufts of foliage, spreading stoloniferously, are intriguing when interplanted with whites or clear yellows. Place in a well-drained, bright position. Provides memorable vignettes within the garden.
"Purplish-green, finely dissected foliage contrasts perfectly with the fragrant, pure white bottlebrush-like flowers that dangle at the tips of wand-like purplish stems on this tall, shade-loving perennial. Excellent for the back of the moist, lightly-shaded border, it is big and attention-grabbing but not coarse. Nicely complemented by grey or gold-leaved shade lovers like hostas. Provide organically-enriched soil and shade from hot afternoon sun."
This selection looks to all the world like a purple smoke tree from a distance. Large, arching branches of rounded, deep red-purple leaves carry multitudes of rusty gold flowers in spring. Combines well, we think, with grays, whites and yellows in our mixed border. One of the most effective foliage plants that we grow. It tolerates shearing, making it a good choice for a hedge or topiary. Provide only full sun and fertile, well- drained soil
