The new growth of this hydrangea is a rich burgundy throughout the season. Come midsummer, from buds opening ruby red, discs of pink, fertile flowers are surrounded by pinkish-white sterile florets picoteed in rose-red. An outstanding cultivar from Japan.

Big Leaf Hydrangea
This hydrangea makes a big impression despite its compact size. A good choice for smaller gardens, the tidy plant offers up armfuls of ball-shaped, pink-toned blooms against dark green, glossy leaves. Hardy, reliable, easy to grow, you can tuck this one into the smallest garden.
(Translation: Red edged.) Deep green serrate foliage and delightful reddish pink lacecap flowers darkening to red with a blue rinse as they age, turning 180 degrees in the process. Compact to 5 ft., among the most beautiful of the many Hydrangeas we cultivate in our woodland, and certainly the favorite of visitors to the garden.
Certainly one of the most striking Hydrangeas that we currently have in our collection in regard to flowers. We originally received this from Japan as ęBeni NishikiĘ which translates literally as 'Red Variegated.' Though the variegation was unstable and quickly disappeared, the deep red lacecap flowers are amongst the most intensely saturated of any Hydrangea cultivar we have observed. Ultimately to 4 ft., in partial shade or full sun in humus-rich, acidic soil.
